Dear Sue,
I wanted to make sure you were recognized for one night back in early September when my husband was transferred down to your unit and assigned to your load. Just a few short hours after he was settled in, it was YOU, during your rounds who recognized that he was in crisis and began to code, and it was YOU who didn't miss a step in alerting the Rapid Response Team. By doing so, YOU saved his life...YOU enabled the RRT and his Dr. to take measures to save him and readmit him back to the ICU. You are my hero! Nurses are often not recognized properly, or at all, for the excellence of care provided. They do so because they know what is expected of a nurse- but you went above and beyond by getting a hold of me within minutes of onset and explained in great detail EVERYTHING that happened/will happen and addressed my concerns- which alleviated my stress, as well as ensuring me that you would be available for me if needed. My husband doesn't remember that night very well (and the next few days on life support) but he does remember "that nice nurse around our age who checked me into my room on that floor", but without your 'sharp as a tack' attention toward his decline, I would be a widow right now.....fortunately, I am not. Thank you for being a "Nurses Nurse". God Bless You.
Note: This is Sue's 2nd DAISY Award!
