Kelsey Hoyer was recognized for her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hoyer is new to her role. She was named nurse manager of the Employee Health, Occupational Medicine, and Allergy and Asthma departments just over one year ago. Hoyer also felt one of the biggest challenges was keeping pace with the rapidly changing situation and effectively communicating recommendations to staff and departments.
Hoyer learned to ask for help when she needed it. "Asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but rather a way to efficiently achieve so much more," she says. "I'm so grateful for the incredible teamwork from leaders across our region. In addition, I have a tremendous amount of gratitude and respect for the Employee Health team who worked tirelessly to be innovative, flexible, and knowledgeable to ensure the health and safety of every employee."
Hoyer also is grateful to her family for helping her through the difficult time. "My family did everything possible to take care of things outside of work so that when I got home for the evening I could have focused family and 'me' time. Being able to set aside COVID-related issues for a little time each evening allowed me to reset my mindset and decompress," she says.
What advice would Hoyer share with others? "It's ok to feel uncomfortable," she says. "This feeling is a sign of personal and professional growth. Be receptive, speak up, and be the change you want to see in the world."
