My wife had a bad reaction to the medication, Ativan, and had some hallucinations. She thought there were people outside of her room to hurt or kill her. Sarah was the one person she trusted and Sarah worked for over an hour to get her calmed down while also making notification to us, her family, to come in. Had it not been for Sarah's calm head and great compassion, they probably would have needed restraints for her but Sarah was able to deescalate the situation while remaining safe and keeping my wife safe. This situation could have gone a whole different way if not for Sarah. Also, from my standpoint, I am thankful that Sarah understood that my wife was acting way out of character and was not having a psychiatric emergency. I am very sure that not every nurse would have put in as much time and effort and instead would have just called for psych and security which would have made the situation much worse and may have led to my wife or staff getting hurt. I cannot thank her enough for the dedication she showed to my wife. She is a real treasure and I feel very strongly that she deserves to be recognized. Bravo and thank you to Sarah!
