I want to take this opportunity to recognize the outstanding care we received on Monday at NWH. My son, who has ADHD and anxiety, had a half day growth hormone test scheduled. Prior to the procedure, I received a phone call from Chris Odell, RN with specific, comprehensive pre-procedure instructions. R had some cold symptoms on the day of the procedure, and Chris took the time to speak with me prior to arrival, first thing in the morning, assessed my concerns and made sure R could still go ahead with the testing.
From the moment Chris greeted R at the Nurses' Station, she immediately, instinctively understood what R needed. A consummate professional, she was able to explain and comfort my son in an age-appropriate, lighthearted yet firm manner which suited his issues perfectly. He was difficult at times, required frequent redirection and repetition, yet she never once appeared irritated or frustrated. She had R participate in his own care when appropriate, gave him control whenever she could, had a great sense of humor and even sent the therapy dog in to see him between blood draws.
Ro was not the easiest patient, but Chris took that in stride while simultaneously orienting her coworker, overseeing the child's care in the next bed, as well as attending to the comfort of the mothers at the bedside.
Chris went above and beyond yesterday, you have a nurse of the highest caliber, who displayed a perfect blend of the art and science of nursing in Chris Odell RN.
