From the absolute bottom of my heart, thank you for everything you did for my momma last night. As a nurse, I have a good sense of someone's heart when they walk in the room. Your heart was meant to do this. I noticed every act of love when you were in this room. The way you organized everything you needed before you came in the room. Keeping her door shut to cut down on the noise, closing her curtain to keep out the lights. Speaking softly to her and explaining everything. Asking me if I wanted to help with her hands-on care. Helping her physically in any way I can gives me purpose. It allows me to speak my love for her. Allowing family to help is very therapeutic. Thank you for starting with her meds. Then doing oral care, washing her body (turning the temp up in the room first), then cleaning her peri area. Everything about you in the room was calming. Peaceful. I've been at her bedside 12-15 hours a day for 9 days and have never seen her get through cares without dropping her sats or breathing fast. I firmly believe your gentle touch and allowing me to be there to help kept her calm.
Thank you for being persistent in getting her bedtime meds even though pharmacy was taking a long time. The updates help us know you care and aren't just too busy. Thank you for embracing me as her daughter and a fellow nurse. You treated my momma with so much dignity and compassion. Making sure her sheets were not wrinkled. Asking her what position she wanted. Making sure after every move that she was comfortable and not rushing an answer out of her. Thank you for grabbing me new blankets and setting up my bed area when I was down for dinner. I know first-hand as an ICU nurse your priority is safe patient care. Always my second priority is serving my families. If I can connect with them in their culture I know/hope I can earn their trust. You did just this! You were literally the perfect example of a competent and compassionate nurse.
After last night's experience, I feel I can leave with a peaceful heart until I return next week. Thank you for making a difference in a very sad and scary time in our lives. I know my momma appreciated everything from you. I seriously can't thank you enough. I hope and pray we have you again as my mom's nurse. You really do go above and beyond all expectations. Your passion and love for what you do are so obvious.
