In February, Mandi responded to a Rapid Response Call for a patient admitted with exacerbation of his heart failure. Throughout the day he experienced an increase in his dyspnea. Later that evening, his condition further decompensated, and the rapid response team was called.
When Mandi, the Rapid Response Team Nurse, walked into the room, she immediately reassured the patient and quickly developed a rapport. She was even able to get him to laugh. When Mandi was providing care, she recognized the development of new-onset heart block. Because of Mandi's expert clinical skills and experience she recognized the patient needed to immediately be transferred to the ICU. She coordinated with bed management, the clinical administrator, the primary medical team and the CICU fellow.
Throughout this entire situation, Mandi provided excellent care and advocacy for all of us. Mandi facilitated a debrief and even made rounds later in the night. This is just one example of the huge impact that Mandi has on the care of our patients and the care of our nurses.
