I am an organ recovery coordinator for Donor Network of Arizona and I am also a registered nurse, one who also worked at Thunderbird for several years. On a recent case at Thunderbird, I had the opportunity to work with many wonderful people who all helped take a very sad situation and bring about life to some very sick individuals. Each person involved helped to make this special organ donor and her family's wish to help others a reality.
Miss Jessy Luvisi is not only a smart and dedicated nurse, but she is also one of the best examples of a caring and compassionate caregiver. Jessy was with this patient for several nights and grew to care for the patient and her family. Jessy came in two extra shifts to take care of not only this patient but also her family. I saw Jessy advocate for her patient and make sure that this patient's family was also given respect and the care that they deserved. We collaborated to provide the best care and outcome for several nights. Jessy had a wonderful attitude, as sometimes we at Donor Network keep our bedside nurses busy. She performed all her tasks with positivity and care.
When a patient becomes an organ donor there are many emotions felt by the family as well as the hospital staff. There is the sadness of the loss of the person but also there is joy and awe knowing that lives will be saved from the generous decision that was made to help others. This is a very special situation to be involved in. Jessy's care and diligent nursing assessments helped to ensure that this patient's gift would be used to save several lives.
