Three days before the Christmas holiday, I found myself in a position that no employee wants to be in. After being evaluated in the Emergency Department, I was admitted to 2 west while I waited for OR time to have my gallbladder removed. I was in a great deal of pain and a bit nervous, wondering how long I would have to wait before going to surgery and how this was going to impact my up-coming holiday plans with family. As Thursday turned into Friday, I grew more and more anxious to the point where my blood pressure began rising to levels I had never encountered before. My nurse, Kelly Gillespie was amazing. She immediately took control of the situation and began to do what she does best. She was calm, yet focused and never wavered from her mission of delivering the best care that she could. As my blood pressure continued to climb, Kelly remained steadfast in her mission. She provided the reassurance that I needed, even when it became clear that she needed to call a Rapid Response. She saw me through one of the most challenging and vulnerable times in my life and for that, I will be forever grateful to her. Valley is very lucky to have Kelly as an employee. She is a real asset to the profession and to our health system.
