After a long week at Atrium in Charlotte, Dad was released from Charlotte to White Oak Manor in Shelby. We were in Charlotte because Dad had fallen and had three brain bleeds and he was there for monitoring. During this monitoring time, there were periods where providers held his maintenance dose of Ativan that he had been on for twenty years or so. He began to decline, had experienced periods of delirium. Delirium had continued to worsen. By the time he had arrived at White Oak Manor in Shelby, he did not even recognize his family or know his name. We had been at White Oak Manor about two hours and Dad had a grand mal seizure. It was my thought and that of several medical opinions to be from benzo withdrawals and possibly from the minor brain bleeds. I started talking with providers and nurses in Charlotte, requesting to be restarted on Ativan.
On Tuesday, when the delirium began, somehow the Ativan was never restarted correctly. Once arriving to the ICU in Shelby, we received Excellent Care! Cierra worked with us, making phone calls, speaking with providers, and being an advocate for her patient. She listened, she provided useful information and kept us updated. It is because of Cierra's dedication and knowledge that Dad was restarted on his maintenance dose of Ativan and started to improve. I have worked in the medical field and have spent 40 plus years coordinating care for my parents and this is the very best experience we have had with the nursing staff. Cierra truly saved her patient's life going over and beyond in care and diligence in working toward a positive result.
