Lucio qualifies on all accounts for the DAISY Award and then some. I was recently in the ICU after having a procedure and quite honestly started to give up on life. I expressed to Lucio that all that was happening just seemed to be too much. That's when Lucio put it to me straight. With some tough love, he told me that I couldn't give up. He wasn't going to let me, and if he didn't give up, then neither could I.
Lucio mentally supported me when I couldn't support myself and never left my side. Lucio encouraged my family to visit and for me to reconnect with my brother. When my family arrived, he reassured them that grandpa was going to be okay and was compassionate and caring.
Lucio provided a level of care that I never knew existed. I've been in and out of a lot of hospitals and not once have I come across someone so special. He treated me like a friend or one of his family members and not just like another number. And when I tried to thank him for everything he had done, he said, "No problem, I'm just doing my job."
