Checking into the stroke floor, I was apprehensive and confused with a flood of questions running through my mind. A certain skill set, professional attitude, and knowledge of treatment are characteristics that are expected from nurse/doctors and staff. However, the ability to truly provide patient-centered care with such a compassionate touch is a rare talent only a few have.
Bindu is the epitome of a genuine kindhearted soul. Prior to my first chemo treatment, I was riddled with anxiety and was very nervous. Bindu came to my room, sat with me and did not hesitate to stay as long as I needed. Her words of encouragement and warmth made me feel safe, confident, and ready to face whatever challenges were coming. I had a successful infusion, to say the least. A few months later, I returned to this floor and although she was not my nurse, she made it to a point to check in on me. Bindu provided me with emotional support like no other. I only wish my writing skills could justify how impactful this woman was and is in my ongoing treatment. I was once told, "No true healing comes without compassion," a quote I now understand after meeting Bindu.
