After having surgery to donate a kidney to a CHOP patient, I was fortunate enough to have Dana as my nurse for the majority of my time in the PACU. This ended up being from 3 PM - 1 AM. Dana was a gracious host and was very helpful to my husband and me. Her demeanor and personality made our time in the PACU as enjoyable as it could be. There was a delay in me being taken to another unit and I could tell it was as stressful for Dana as it was for us. To help make us more comfortable, she was able to get a bed for me versus the surgery stretcher. She also was able to get a recliner for my husband. She and the team also offered him a meal voucher and parking passes.
Dana was extremely proactive in working with her team to facilitate my transfer as soon as possible. Her conversation and empathy for us during this time of waiting was more than comforting. It was apparent for the duration of our time in the PACU that the group of nurses there truly take pride in their roles. We could hear many of them showing the same care and compassion to others that were being shown to us.
Even in my post-anesthetic state, I remember Dana's kindness, positive attitude, and willingness to be an advocate for my care. After escorting us to the other unit, I am certain she returned to the PACU to continue delivering high-quality work!
Thank you!
