Caroline calmly handled a scary situation when a young patient presented with incision dehiscence after abdominal surgery.
When Caroline and a doctor came to change the patient's dressing, blood began gushing out of the wound. While the patient was terrified, Caroline calmly directed the doctor to care for the wound while she calmed the patient and cleaned the puddle of blood. Caroline described each step of the process to help her patient feel calmer. The patient later recalled that Caroline checked on her frequently after the experience and brought heat packs and said that Caroline "made her feel like she mattered and that someone truly cared for her." Caroline's knowledge, critical thinking skills, compassion and empathy for her patients make her a true role model for the nursing profession and a true DAISY Nurse.
