My niece came to the ED very sick and because Adam acted so quickly, he very well may have saved her life. At the time of her arrival, he did not know she was the family of a fellow mission partner. She tested positive for sepsis when she arrived at St. Joseph and had an upper respiratory infection, pneumonia, and an extremely high fever. Because of his fast reaction time and keeping on the Doctor, she was in the ambulance and out the door before he finished his report to Saint Francis.
Although my niece is handicapped, eight years old, and not able to verbally respond or walk, Adam treated her like any normal child. Each time he would do something, he would call her by her name and tell her what it was he was going to do. The respect he treated her with was wonderful. My sister and her husband really appreciated the way he treated all of them. I know this is most likely nothing different from the way he treats any patient, but to us, it was so much more. I told Adam thank you that night, but it does not seem like enough.
