During our 2 1/2 month stay at Shepherd due to West Nile virus, we experienced incredible care and support. From the case managers, chief of staff, doctors, nurses, aides, physical therapists, environmental staff, we felt we were among family members that were highly skilled and truly cared. One nurse, in particular, stood out to all 3 of us. Martha made each one of us, individually and collectively, feel comfortable in our ability to charter unknown territory. She encouraged, comforted and educated us when we needed it the most. She has superior nursing experience, skills, and knowledge while maintaining an approachable attitude. She was a nurse, sister, mother, caregiver, and teacher all rolled into one. Her encouragement instilled in us the ability to go home and achieve increased ongoing health for our loved one. We feel we have made a life-long friend in Martha. Upon our return visits to Shepherd for doctor's visits, she continues to give us her unconditional support and love.
