Over the past 3 weeks, I have taken my UCLA BSN students to this unit for their 3rd-year clinical nursing rotations. Mithun has gone above and beyond, acting as a role model towards student nurses to precept and mentor new, upcoming professional nursing students. He always maintains a smile and pleasant demeanor when he is asked to work with an RN student for the day and finds specific examples and patient care learning experiences for the students, so they experience critical thinking in caring for their patients. On multiple occasions, the reports of their experiences have been phenomenal. What I admired about him most, is his professionalism, willingness to take the time to ensure the students had the absolute best experience ever during their shift, and how proud he is to work on his unit, 4MN. Last, when I went to compliment him, he smiled and said, "That is what we do here at SMUCLA, the expectation is we treat others like we want to be treated. I was a UCLA student nurse once, and I remember how important it is to have the best experiences possible." He stands out and steps up to be a true leader, role model and fulfill the added expectations of sharing and mentoring our UCLA BSN nursing students.
