I was admitted to North 5 with bacteremia via my Hickman catheter. I have short bowel syndrome, which leads me to have high output via my Jejunostomy. I had the blessing to have Linda Thach as a nurse multiple times.
One day, I had to leave home in a hurry to get to the Emergency room and did not have a chance to bring extra supplies. When I reached N5, I asked for a clip and clamp for my ostomy as mine was starting to wear out with age. There were no clamps available in floor supplies, so Linda identified and contacted an expert GI nurse, who came to my room to assess which appliance/clamp I use. Although the GI nurse did not have the correct clamp in stock, that did not deter Linda from locating the right one. She searched Central Supply online and worked with Central Supply to add it for future patients.
I am a former RN on N5. I am quick to recognize natural leadership and proficiency and a drive for excellence! I can see when an individual nurse, like Linda, possesses these qualities!
Another beautiful example of Linda's compassionate care is the way that Linda respected my privacy and dignity when I had guests. She inquired discreetly about my ostomy output. Linda has made a significant difference in my care through her kindness and sincerity.
