Becca was our son, E's, nurse throughout his long stay on the Neuro floor several times. She stood out from the very beginning by the quiet confidence she exhibited in the numerous dressing changes, EVD adjustments, explaining certain medical terminology and procedures to us after Physicians' rounds. She also showed compassion and care not only to our child but also to us as parents by listening to our concerns, taking our numerous questions to various doctors and delivering their answers to us (from Physician to Neurosurgery to Pulmonology to Gastroenterology - our son's was a complex case and his hospital stay lasted long 47 days over the Thanksgiving and Christmas/NY holidays).
Becca was also instrumental in catching our son VP shunt's malfunction and alerting the right people, which resulted in Neurosurgeon driving from home on a snowy night only to confirm that she was right and that our son's shunt was indeed malfunctioning and that he would need revision surgery. She really went above and beyond in making sure E and we had everything we needed, not only in the hospital room but also provided emotional and moral support, especially during scary moments. We knew we could rely on her; ask any questions we had and would be understood and that the action would be taken when needed.
We are beyond grateful Becca was our nurse, thankful that the charge nurse would assign Becca to our son on her shifts - consistency does make a big difference on a long hospital stay for both the child and his family. Becca really added so much to making our long hospital stay easier and lighter by being there for us and we are forever grateful for her care, compassion, professionalism, humbleness, ability to listen, understand and advocate for her patient.
