My son-in-law was visiting his aunt, who had just returned from surgery. He had a syncopal episode and fainted. The nurse in the room was Gracie Tsedah. His wife observed his color change and alerted Gracie, who immediately came over and determined he was not breathing.
Gracie started CPR while a code was called. Gracie completed several cycles of CPR (many, many compressions) and our son-in-law revived before defibrillation was begun, thanks to her efforts.
Today is his 35th birthday and we, his family, want to thank Gracie for her composure and capable assessment and skills. It is because of her efforts last week that we can celebrate his birthday with his life and with no aftereffects from the episode (except some soreness from the compressions).
Nurses save lives and Gracie certainly saved him from an uncertain outcome. We thank you so very much, Gracie!
