About 9 months ago, my husband got a diagnosis that would dramatically change our lives. He was diagnosed with Rectal Cancer. He has received chemo and radiation, surgery, chemo again, and then a final surgery. He has received amazing care throughout his cancer journey. But, one nurse really stood out as going above and beyond for my husband's safety and security!
Taylor Witt took care of my husband after both surgeries. His first surgery was pretty uneventful and he recovered quickly. His second surgery became very complicated when he started hemorrhaging on the day after surgery. Thankfully, Taylor was his nurse, and she could not have been more on top of his care. As it started, my husband and I were both concerned that this was not normal. Taylor immediately paged my husband's doctor and closely monitored him. She worked tirelessly that day advocating for my husband and assuring that he received the care he needed. Even when we were met with roadblocks she escalated and continued to persist. She let me vent my frustrations and she was very supportive of me as well. I know it can be overwhelming when a patient's family member is also a nurse, but she never made me feel like my questions or requests were a burden to her.
Taylor is truly a gem! She is an amazing nurse with great skills. That evening, when they were moving my husband to ICU (about 9:00), I saw Taylor as we were rolling out of the room. I know she was probably there late because of the time she spent caring for my husband. A thank you is not enough to express my gratitude for this amazing nurse!
