Janeisy works in a surgical area but has a special passion for end of life care. We recently had a patient who transitioned to hospice on our unit. Since Janeisy is one of the few nurses with experience and comfort level in taking care of these patients, she volunteered to rearrange her personal schedule in order that this patient and family get excellent care in their final days. She was compassionate and provided so much education on what to expect to the family it really put them at ease. They had so many nice things to say about her. I know it made this difficult time easier knowing that their father was so well cared for and comfortable.

My father in law was a terminal cancer patient who was placed on "virtual hospice" status. Janeisy volunteered to take care of him due to her hospice experience. She stayed late on Monday night (for over 3 hours) to keep him comfortable and teach the other covering nurses. On Tuesday (she was scheduled to be off), she came in to again take care of him. On Wednesday, the assigned nurse from a hospice company did not show, and Janeisy volunteered to take care of him (on her time off) to make sure he passed on comfortably. She treated the patient and my entire family with compassion. Ms. Romero definitively demonstrated the best ICARE values.
