Madisen "Peggy" Edwards practices in the SINU, a surgical intensive care department, at Baptist Hospital. Madisen was recognized by a patient's family member for the exemplary compassion shown to the family after their father had passed away. The poignant nomination is as follows:
"I just wanted to write and give my heartfelt thanks to the team at Baptist but especially Nurse Peggy. My father passed away yesterday after an accident. There were many people there, and the situation was hectic. Ms. Peggy was warm, connected with us, but in control of the room, gave clear directions and walked us through every step. She was incredibly compassionate and did such an amazing job. I was so lost after he was gone and felt awful leaving him. She came and sat with me until I could get up the nerve to do it. Losing someone is impossible, but Ms. Peggy made it so that I didn't have to think twice or puzzle out what she was saying. I felt blessed to have her as my Dad's nurse yesterday."
Peggy exemplified our values of excellence and compassion as she truly connected with this family member. Her empathy and care reflected the genuine art of caring through her nursing practice and made this time of difficult loss a little more bearable.
