My son was born at 35 weeks at AdventHealth in Daytona Beach. He was delivered via C-Section at which time I got to see him for a very brief few seconds before he was whisked away. A few hours after he was airlifted to AdventHealth for Children due to needing a level 3 NICU. It was a few days before I was able to join him. This is when I met one of his many fantastic nurses, Gina! She is such a ray of sunshine and positivity, hope and compassion. She takes the time to ensure that we, the parents, feel confident and secure in the treatments, provides detailed information, goes above and beyond any and all expectations.
During our stay in the NICU, my husband and I received a call that the adoption of my eldest son had gone through and was finalized. My husband was now the legal father of my 15-year-old and had just become a father when our baby was born early! Ms. Gina was in the room when we got the exciting news! She encouraged us to step out and celebrate, to take the time to reflect on all the wonderful changes and enjoy the moment of being a completed family. When we returned later that day to partake in a feeding, Miss Gina had made the sweetest congratulations card. Something so simple, but truly showed us she is more than just a nurse for the babies; she takes care of the parents as well. Thank you, Ms. Gina!
Note: This is Gina's 2nd DAISY Award!
