Chrissie Quill, Nurse Manager acknowledges that Kaitlyn Arriel, Clinical Lead RN and Nicole DiSpena, RN were instrumental along with the staff of C3 (Med/Surg) in providing a very unfortunate family with a Christmas that they will never forget.
A 37 year old was admitted with complications, she is a single mom with 2 children. Her oldest is developmentally delayed and a 2 year old son. The patient spent Christmas in the hospital. As a result her children were unable to celebrate Christmas. The children were told that Santa was sick so they would need to wait a little longer to celebrate. In truth, there was no money for Christmas presents.
Kaitlyn & Nicole along with staff members planned to give this family a spectacular Christmas surprise. They solicited donations from staff members and decorated the mom's room like a winter wonderland, when she was off the floor for tests. There were so many gifts to be opened by the children, who were ecstatic.
The kindness and human spirit was definitely alive and well at Winchester Hospital on that day.
