... My brother was brought into the ER for about the 5th time. His condition was deteriorating quickly. 5 months previous he was diagnosed with Hep. C and cirrhosis of liver. There was no hope for him to get better but only to wait for God to take him. He was admitted to ICU unit and was waiting to go to hospice. I sat with my brother everyday but on Wed. morning when I arrived, I heard laughter coming from his room. When I entered, I saw nurse Liz Thiel kidding around with my brother and he was smiling and laughing. My brother was a natural flirt so I figured even in his state, that he was throwing on the charm! I was just happy to see him smiling. That was his best day, because Thur. night he took a turn for the worse. He was unresponsive and passed on Friday.
I talked to Liz right after he passed and I thanked her for being so kind to him and making him feel special before leaving this world. I showed her pictures of him before he was ill and she sees why he was such a flirt. Liz was a great comfort to me and directed me as to what to do next. She made sure my brother passed in comfort and with dignity and for that she does deserve to be awarded!
