Sharon Knight is an angel that saved me and my family without blinking or even knowing.
I have been in many hospitals and never met a nurse as hard working and caring of her patients. Sharon Knight went above and beyond her call of duty and did not even recognize what an amazing job she did. I was depressed and in a hopeless state about my surgery and recovery and was not sure I wanted my life to continue at such a young age with so many obstacles. This lady, Sharon Knight, changed my heart and thinking. The first shift I met her she reminded me that we are here to change others' lives and not our own. I expressed my feelings towards her and she only acted as if she were simply doing her job.
Sharon Knight was doing her job not only to the best of her ability but she also changed my life and outlook. Not only did she care when it seemed no other staff would, she even seemed to care more than my own loved ones. I truly believe she was put here by God in my situation. I did not know I was coming here for surgery when I entered the ER, I am only 33 years old. I found out not only did I already have major permanent nerve damage but I learned about the 3 disks I needed replaced as well as the sensations that may not come back at all. As a young mother of 2 I was very scared and felt alone.
Sharon reminded me of the positive without disregarding my feelings. Sometimes too positive is a turn off when one feels alone and feels doomed but she presented it in such a way that I wanted to try all over again and reminded me why I became a CAN and started LPN school before I did so much damage to my body. I went from angry and, to be honest, suicidal to positive and ready to fulfill someone else's life in the same way. I cried tears of joy as Sharon lifted these thoughts out of my head and they had been there all through counseling, therapy, family, friends and other medical settings.
As I leave this place rather than remembering uncontrolled pain and surgery and bad news, I cannot get this wonderful lady out of my mind. I can't think of anyone that deserves it more. I watched her care for ALL her patients the same considerate way and still had time to make one person go from no longer wanting to live to making decisions to become tough and push on for others. This young lady never once seemed to notice how hard she worked or how much she was appreciated. If she does not get this award I pray she knows that she forever changed the life of a much destroyed 33 year old mom of 13 and 12 year old sons. She tore down brick walls I had built for years in very short amount to time and allowed tears of kindness.
Sharon Knight saved my life, my recovery and my children's life without the blink of an eye.
