Debbie was my night nurse while I was being induced for labor. I had been in labor for 12 hours before her shift had started. I felt like I was just another day on the job to the previous nurses. When Debbie came in to care for me and my family, her compassion and kindness were immediately evident. She was very attentive and made an effort to connect with me on a personal level. I felt like a person, not a number under her care. This greatly improved the experience that my family and I had during our stay. It made me feel cared for as an individual person and more relaxed about the process I was going through. She had read my birth plan and discussed it with me when she began my care. I greatly appreciated the attention she gave to my preferences and for making sure I knew she was aware of them. It can feel like you are putting up a wall between yourself and the nursing staff when you bring a birth plan but Debbie never made me feel this way. I did not feel judged or like an inexperienced patient with high expectations in Debbie's eyes which I had felt previously.
She was a very calming presence when my blood pressure dropped from the epidural and I needed oxygen. She helped me to maintain my calm when I was worried about my baby, just thinking about this I am so grateful that she was there with me during this. It meant a lot to me that she cared enough to follow up with us on her own time.
During our stay at the hospital we worked with many wonderful nurses and technicians, however, Debbie stood out to us. She is a wonderful nurse who is compassionate and kind and as her patient, I felt very cared for on a personal level. Our birth did not go as we had hoped it would, however, we still had an amazing and positive experience. Nurse Debbie contributed greatly to that positive experience. We will be forever grateful for her care of our family.
