As Medical Director of the Peds UVC, I have had the pleasure of knowing Sue and working alongside her for the past 4 1/2 years. I cannot share just 1 story about Sue, because the reality is that she is an incredibly amazing person to work with every single day. Not that we all are not entitled to our bad days, but I have never seen her without a smile. She is the epitome of what I would call a 'cheerful giver'. She is incredibly skilled, patient, and compassionate.
In this setting (UVC), practically anything can walk through the door. Therefore, it is important for all providers in this setting to be competent, remain calm, and be flexible. Sue is all of these things. Other words/phrases that have been used to describe Sue: salt of the earth, team player, helpful, friendly, sincere, giving I have taken the liberty of asking my colleagues and resident learners their thoughts about the nurses here...we all share this sentiment.
Of note, resident learners often comment on how great she is to work with. Our residents rotate through this clinic monthly, and learning new work flow on a monthly basis can be quite stressful and confusing. Sue is never one to criticize; rather she is always kind and helpful. She has a very calming spirit, and is always encouraging in every situation. Her bright disposition and wonderful sense of humor is not only desired, but is essential in a setting where stressed parents of sick children need and deserve a little extra TLC.
Sue is easily among the best of the best in her field. Any patient would be lucky to have been cared for by Sue. I know that my life is certainly richer by having known her. She is truly a blessing.
