Recently, as I assumed care for my four patients at 0700, it was clear I would need to spend all my time with one particular patient to treat them, stabilize them, and eventually transfer this patient to a higher level of acuity. Nancy stepped in, passed my meds, sent one to surgery, and prepared another for discharge. All the while performing her own duties as charge nurse, taking endless phone calls and being on hand to tackle any staffing need, family needs, and whatever new crisis came her way, while at the same time maintaining a calm resourceful and professional demeanor!

Needless to say Nancy exhibits the best qualities of being a nurse: kindness, calmness, and ability to connect with her patients and their families, encourage them - "that yes, they can do that" to get better. She is a role model to the ever changing demands of today's nurse and her humor helps me get through the roughest of days, both personally and professionally.
