Vernita Stone was an amazing gift. She went above and beyond to make my uncle and our family comfortable through the dying process. She brought in the therapy dog to see my Uncle and had the dog sit on a chair so he could pet her. He smiled from ear to ear. She took special care to know who each family member was and made sure she hugged us when needed and gave us time with him when we needed. She will always hold a special place in our family.

Vernita, your presence and especially your words made it a calm, peaceful and prayerful place both my aunt and uncle as we removed her from life support. When you asked which of us were the children, biologically, none of us were, but they loved all their nieces and nephews as much as a parent and then some. Uncle was having a very hard time, yet your words and grace made him calm. Thank you for someone who loves them both dearly. And I'm just married to one of their nephews. I'm not even a blood relative. Furthermore, I am a nurse. You are a credit to our profession. My thanks are heartfelt and you will always be remembered. God Bless you Vernita.

I nominate Vernita Stone for the DAISY Award on behalf of my family. She helped us so much the last day of our dear Aunt's life - she made sure that Aunt's last moments were peaceful, reverent and holy.
