My wife was admitted to the 3rd floor ICU at WRMC due to acute respiratory failure. Somewhere between 7 and 8 am, nurse Emmy McKibben made her presence known and took charge, and boy did she ever! She soon had everyone hopping and jumping. I could tell immediately that she was a take charge, no nonsense type person. She had the respect and admiration of co-workers, both above and beneath her.

It has now been 5 days, and not once has she been anything but kind, gentle, compassionate and caring to my wife, myself and others. She is also very intelligent, alert and quick on her feet. She is a great multi-tasker and problem solver. One only needs to observe from afar to know she loves her job and all those whose lives have been placed in her care.

For all of this, I feel that it is time for all the love, compassion and appreciation to come full circle to her in the form of this award. A mere pen and paper and words can never fully express my gratitude for the outstanding work and the care she has given to my wife. She is truly a remarkable person, a gift from God, and a vessel which He has chosen to take charge and care of His sick children. She is my hero!
