Joellyn went above and beyond in the CVICU. She cared for a sick patient with a total artificial heart (TAH) which is a new piece of equipment. This was the first person at this hospital to have this implanted, and it takes special training to be competent. She even took the patient outside for the first time since July! It was a beautiful day, and the patient was very grateful.
She was also shift coordinator for the day, which she was not assigned to do. However, we were limited on nurses who were able, so Joellyn took over without ever complaining.
An admission was also called up, and Joellyn took report and helped settle the patient until second shift came in. She did this while already having two patients she was assigned to, and in an ICU you only have two patients at a time. She was truly a team player and she deserves to be recognized for her skills and positive attitude.
