I nominate Ailee Herrboldt from the CSU/SSU as a deserving recipient of the DAISY Award. She is currently the discharge nurse on our floor. She is amazing at this role. People think that discharging is a simple and quick process. Ailee is compassionate and takes her time to educate the patient and family. She listens to their last minute concerns and is able to advocate for the patient to have a safe discharge home. During the evening and weekend shifts, she is an amazing resource person for the patient and nurses. She has developed good relationships with the case manager, social worker, home health and medication assistance program people. There are times when patients call the floor days after being discharged for assistance. Even though she may not have discharged them, she assists them with their needs. She has called physicians for medication issues, follow-up appointment issues and any other issues that they may encounter.

Besides being a discharge nurse, Ailee has done multiple roles. From answering call lights, helping patients in the room and assisting nurses in RRT/Codes.

One time the nurses on the floor were in a situation where some of them were assisting a patient with a seizure. The spouse of the patient became so ill we had to code him. There was a young child that was visiting and became scared of the situation. Ailee went above and beyond to help this child. She was with the child in the lounge room. With her calm tone of voice and body language she kept her calm and safe while the nurses were busy attending to the situation. She worked with the chaplain to assist finding a family or friend for this child.

Ailee is an amazing nurse and the staff really appreciate all the work she does. She also has been involved with unit council to improve patient care.
