Melissa's care and compassion for my daughter as well as me went above and beyond every other nurse, we had in our 45 day stay in the NICU. She took the time to learn what worked and didn't work for my daughter, and I could tell she cared deeply for her wellbeing. She knew her belly would fill up with air every time her chin strap was on to keep her CPAP bubbling, so she would use her pacifier instead, and she knew she loved her pacifier. The other nurses immediately jumped to using the chin strap because it was quick and didn't require as much attention, which worked but then it made her tummy hurt so Melissa would make sure to tell the nurse coming in after her what worked best for my daughter so they were able to give her the best care possible as well. My mind was always at ease when she was around. She was able to keep me calm in some of the scariest situations. There was a day that she was having spells every half hour and I wouldn't have been able to bring myself to go home and rest if she hadn't been in Melissa's care. After we were transferred to ICC, I was struggling a little with adjusting to the change and Melissa reassured me that I'm a great mom and a great advocate for my daughter. She took the time to come visit (with permission of course) and made sure I knew that it was a big adjustment for everyone and that I'm going to do great and we're closer to being home! If we could've taken her with us to ICC to be her nurse we would have in a heartbeat!
