My son was recovering in the Neuro Science Unit from a surgery to remove a brain tumor. Hannah was our night nurse for 2 nights but she made such an impact in that time period. My son was talking in his sleep and she realized that he loved dogs so she brought in a dog pillowcase and even created a sign to put in the window asking people to send a therapy dog our way. I was having difficulty remembering the meds my son was taking and she created a chart for me. The clincher was when we were waiting for my son to have a bowel movement...he passed gas, which we were happy about...and as she walked out of the room she said, "Just keep farting!" I started cracking up!!
At one point, my son said his medication tasted like "oily pizza crust" - he doesn't like pizza - and she cracked up because she's all about pizza! She had pizza socks on, a pizza light, and pizza scrubs. Hannah really made an effort to get to know our family and my son particularly - and this is on the night shift!
On our third night in the NS Unit, she was floated to another unit but stopped by during her break AND after her shift to say hello. I have been singing her praises to all the doctors, telling them that if they don't know her, they should and what an asset she is to CHOC. We will be spending quite a lot of time here in the future and I REALLY hope we can request Hannah as our nurse in the future.
