From the time Meghann Speigle walked into the room we knew we were in good hands. On the first day, Meghann was our nurse she addressed any issues we had from the night prior. She made sure that if M needed something for pain either her or the charger nurse would bring it in. She came in whenever it was coming close to being due to see if M needed anything.
She would re-explain to our family what the doctors had just explained in terms that we understood. Meghann shared her story of hospice with her grandma which in turn gave us comfort that she knew what we were going through and walked us through step-by-step. Each day Meghann was our nurse we knew we had nothing to worry about because she would help us through.
Each morning before the doctors would round Meghann would help us come up with a game plan for the day so we knew what to ask for and got all our questions answered. It also allowed Meghann to know what orders to ask the doctors for.
Meghann would let us know what we might expect for the day based on M's symptoms. You have no idea what comfort Meghann brought to our family. It is very hard making decisions regarding medications and hospice care. When your loved one is in hospice care you just keep questioning if you are doing the right thing and we did not have these thoughts because Meghann gave us great guidance and comfort. To this day I tear up when I talk about how outstanding this nurse was to M and our family.
We could never repay Meghann for her compassion. The Christ Hospital is very lucky to have such a great nurse and we were very blessed she was our nurse during this difficult time.
