My husband had spinal fusion surgery and was to be discharged in two days. The plan changed due to a CSF leak. He had to have a 2nd surgery. During those 9 days on the orthopedic floor, Becky Munger proved to be a champion for both him and our family. Following the first surgery the wound vac bandage constantly drained-profusely (which led to the 2nd surgery). The entire time Becky was on duty she was working to determine the cause and fix the "bandage" problem, keep both my husband and me informed, updated, etc., and continued to meet each nursing need. She is an excellent and intelligent caregiver. At one point a member of the operating team was called to "fix" the bandage but ended up replacing it. She asked another nurse who was assisting, for steri-strips and that nurse said there were none. When Becky came into the room (having been with another patient) the OR nurse again repeated her need for the steri-strips and Becky immediately left the room and returned with the item. We never saw an instance that she did not show initiative or response-always with a great attitude. We jokingly called her the "bulldog" for hanging in there and working to solve the problem before giving up and calling for help. She was very in tune with my husband's needs and went beyond the "required care" to provide answers or service. She was very interested in her work and applied herself; she was never critical of others. We felt better on the days she was on duty knowing she would "take care" of business; encouraging confidence in a shaky situation. Becky is a wonderful young woman and a true DAISY Nurse.
