Brenda Singleton is one of the most caring and compassionate nurses I have ever worked alongside. Brenda has a way of making every patient feel like they are the only patient she has to take care of all day. She makes each patient feel special and truly advocates for each patient. Brenda is certain to make sure each of her patients is comfortable.
Recently, there was a situation when Brenda was having an especially busy day. On that day, she was caring for a patient who was unable to make her needs known. There was no family at the bedside to advocate for the patient either. I went in to help Brenda turn the patient. Brenda kindly explained to the patient that we were going to reposition her. She explained to the patient each step of what we were doing, even though the patient may or may not have been able to understand.
Brenda was sure not to miss a detail. She closely inspected the patient to make sure she didn't have any new skin areas of concern, and she was so meticulous in this inspection. Brenda was kind to this patient and cared for her as I would care for my own family. I know all nurses do this, but the way Brenda took care of this patient was truly humbling and moving. That is the thing about Brenda-she treats each patient with the vigilance and care that she would treat her own family.
I have also witnessed Brenda with student nurses. Brenda always finds the time to teach new nurses and show them the "exciting" stuff. Brenda is kind and patient with students always. Brenda is a great asset to Mercy Health and as well our patients are lucky to have her on our team. She deserves to receive the DAISY Award, as she exemplifies this award in every interaction she has with every patient.
