My primary care physician sent me to the Emergency Room in order to be admitted to the hospital. I had a terrible pain in the right side of my abdomen, which radiated around to my back. Understandably, I was very worried and didn't really know what to expect.
After undergoing a battery of tests, including a CAT scan, I was informed by the ER doctor that I had acute appendicitis and it needed to be removed ASAP!
Colleen Accardi, your Admission Nurse, stepped in at that point. She immediately attempted to calm my anxiety and fear, both of which were readily apparent. She proceeded to professionally address my questions concerning who was to perform the surgery and when it would take place. She truly went out of her way to search out the answers for me.
Moreover, Colleen arranged for my husband to be able to stay with me after my surgery was performed and I was brought from recovery to my assigned room. She even ensured that a pillow and blanket were available for him too. Quite honestly, the peace of mind that I experienced by having my husband there when I awoke can't be described adequately in words.
Finally, Colleen found out that my husband had not eaten anything since noon (it was around 11:00 pm at that point), and she offered to get him a sandwich and a soft drink. She also personally escorted him to the waiting room where the doctor would come to advise him of the outcome of my surgery. I can't thank her enough for all she did for us.
Colleen is truly a kind, caring and compassionate professional.
