When you think of leadership and Josh, your mind goes to accountability, respect, teamwork, coaching, mentoring and building of both internal and community partnerships.
Josh has the innate ability to see a problem, work to a solution and engage all the stakeholders so that their opinions are heard and the solution is acceptable to all. He leverages his strengths as a leader by managing a dual role in the ED as a Clinical Coordinator and the EMS Coordinator.
As a Clinical Coordinator, he educates, mentors and holds the team accountable. Staff state that "you know he expects the best and will help you achieve that". Josh has a no-nonsense approach that some staff can say is intimidating at times but you know his expectations, he "has our back" and he has a passion for patient care and safety that ensure high-quality safe patient care.
As an EMS coordinator, he builds trust, processes, and internal and external partnerships that help to ensure the safety of the care we provide to our community. All this leads to a strong community presence and growth for the ED and hospital. This is a different yet vital form of leadership that is unique and not always thought about when looking at defining a leader on a clinical unit.
This is, however, leadership that is required in the Emergency Department as we are the front door to our community. His clinical skills along with his community focus provide him the ability leverage his strengths and be a leader his department needs.
