I would like to let someone know that Andres RN in MICU was an amazing nurse while my uncle was in the MICU. He was very calm and patient with all our questions. We are from Chicago, so we were not able to be at the hospital very often and he remembered my mom a month later and hugged and greeted her when he saw her. Thanks to nurses like Andres we were comfortable leaving him because he was in good hands. Andres is a great asset to your organization and would like him to be recognized for his compassion and skills. Thank you for everything Andres!

As a coworker, I have witnessed Andres administer empathic, hospitable, and efficient care to our patients and their family members firsthand. It is evident how attentive he is. On one occasion while transferring a patient out of the ICU, he performed trach care prior to the patient departure. This was impressive due to the skill and gracefulness he executed during the trach care. As I observed both Andres and the patient, her facial expression revealed that she too was in awe of his detailed care. There is no doubt that Andres does his job with excellence!

Not only is Andres a compassionate nurse, he also strives to enhance the care delivered by his fellow nurses at Parkland as well as within the nursing field. Andres is also involved in research outside of our unit. He composed a paper titled Situational Factors Associated with Burnout Among Emergency Department Nurses, which was accepted for publication in the Journal of Workplace Health & Safety. Andres recently mentored a nurse and assisted them through the process of conducting and submitting a study for publication. Andres demonstrates leadership qualities by being actively involved in the advancement of nursing. Andres' participation in nursing research shows that he is engaged and active in the process of creating positive change. He views problems as an opportunity for improvement.
Andres is also an active participant on multiple committees, including the Policy and Procedure Committee. As a member of this committee, he ensures that Parkland nurses can effectively utilize evidence-based practice and enhance the quality of care for our patients by reducing rates of infection, hospitalization stays, etc. Among other things, Andres goes above and beyond to educate our staff on the correct manner to perform various duties that have been implemented in Parkland's policies and procedures. This shows the level of professionalism and responsibility that he displays in his nursing career.
Andres' background as a telemetry nurse, ED/trauma nurse, and ICU nurse make him a well-rounded experienced nurse and an excellent resource. Andres never hesitates to help a patient or staff member. He is flexible with assignments and keeps a good attitude in our busy, constantly changing ICU environment. When he sees a nurse overwhelmed with a very critically ill patient, Andres always seeks a way to help the nurse; regardless of the task.
Furthermore, Andres has partnered with the RN III and charge nurse network. Recently, the RN IIIs collaborated with him to review the Nursing Reference Center Research Database skills checklists/ information to ease the transition process and ensure Parkland specific considerations are added. Andres is also currently working with fellow ICU charge nurses to develop an effective process and policy that facilitates the placement of Dobhoff tubes on the med/surg floors. Once there is a policy that addresses this issue, Andres, and our fellow coworkers will have been able to provide more effective care to our patients. Andres is not only an asset to our patient, but to the nursing field in general.
