ChristinaMorhiser is the Nurse Manager of the Multi Disciplinary unit of the CancerCenter. Chris volunteered to help the Gamma Knife Department this past summerwhen one of our RN's had to go out on a leave of absence. This required that
Chris be oriented into the role of a Gamma knife RN while at the same time still managing her own department. It also required that she be here very earlyin the morning, either at 5:00 am or 5:30 am depending on the case that was to be
treated that day. The Gamma Knife department is a very small unit and veryspecialized in the care we provide to our patients. Her help was crucial to usto continue to provide care to our patients. Over the next 3 months I orientedChris to Gamma Knife. She always came in with a smile on her face. She neverceases to amaze me on how she was able learn a specialized role and manage herdepartment all at the same time. Of course along the way Chris and Iexperienced things that had never occurred before in my orienting anyone inthis department. I know those first few weeks Chris was asking herself what shehad gotten herself into by volunteering to help.
Without Chris's help care toour patients would have been delayed. Her professionalism and her attitude of 'we are here to help each other to provide care to our patients' is aninspiration to behold. We are all here to help provide care for our patientsand if we can do that by helping each other why not do so then. Chris provedthat to me each and every day she was here. She is a true example of a teammember. I know I speak for all of us when we say thank you to a job well doneChris!
