Nurse Mindie is special because of her love for her job, profession, empathy, and compassion she shows to her patients and their families. When Mindie walked into the room, she smiled, made eye contact with everyone, introduced herself, and stated her role. She then introduced herself to my mother, the patient, and went straight to work on the problem. Through her compassion, empathy, professionalism, and her skill set, it is evident that she is a nurse because she wants to make a difference.
When the doctor asked me to make decisions regarding my mother's care, I misunderstood some of the medical terms the doctor used and I made decisions based on my misunderstanding. Nurse Mindie clarified the terminology, giving me the exact meaning of the medical terms. As a result of Nurse Mindie's intervention, I was able to change my decisions to ones that reflected my true wishes.
Nurse Mindie was very professional and more importantly, very knowledgeable. She kept a very close eye on my mom's condition and made quick decisions regarding my mother's care based on her knowledge and skills. She did not allow her ego to impair her decision-making. And no time did she try to impress the family, but instead, she focused on my mother's health.
