Our nurse was a ray of sunshine! Aine Sturgeon is very energetic and loving and kind.
My mom has dementia and she was treated with dignity and respect from day one. Aine would look for different inventive ways to work with my mom and call her loving names that my mom responded to positively. She went over and above what her job was to care for my mom. No matter what situation came our way as a family she came to encourage or to give us knowledge and information when we needed it. She spoke to doctors on our behalf and for several weeks 3 times a day when dietary kept messing up my mom's food, she would call and get food changed and to us immediately there were things that we discussed as a family with her and because we were so tired, she would remember everything and speak to the doctor about it or even if we inquired about it, the next thing we know she had all of the information on it, it was almost as if she began to read our minds!
Aine would sing and even dance for my mom and each time it worked to either get my mom to eat her food or take her meds. She allowed us to confide in her about different challenges that we faced throughout our stay in the hospital and we always felt that she was on our side, so much so that when administration or social workers got involved she immediately told them what happened and stood up for my mom. She was extraordinary.
She made our stay wonderful and everyday was a joy when we saw her walk through those doors - I began to feel so confident and comfortable with her that I would leave the room and go downstairs and take some time for myself. That is something that I never do when my mom is in the hospital! I even went to a few appointments of my own and she cared for my mom exceptionally! Aine is a gift to this hospital and should be treated as such! I know that she was an Angel to us as a family and especially to my Mom!
