Our 92 year old mother was admitted late in the evening with a broken hip. Diana Mizer was her nurse that night, as well as for several subsequent nights and instantly we knew our mom was in good hands. For a variety of reasons, the surgery mom needed was postponed over the next two days. All the nurses were professional and skilled and treated our mom with care, but Diana stood out as not only professional but compassionate, concerned and responsive to whatever our mom needed. She talked with mom directly every time she came in the room, and always with a soft voice and genuine smile. Every interaction was positive and supportive. Our mom had been not only uncomfortable physically but was also worried about the surgery. Diana's presence seemed to allay mom's fears and helped her stay calm. Of course, we as a family were somewhat anxious as well and had questions about the delays and information from the different medical teams. Diana was empathetic and sensitive to our need to know what was going on with our mom, and was able to keep us updated as much as possible. Diana helped mitigate the difficulties for our mom and for us. Her nursing skills go far beyond the technical aspects of the job and we are so grateful to her for helping us through this challenging experience. She exemplifies nursing in all the best ways and is very deserving of this award. Thank you Diana.
