Anitra Hardie attentively cared for my mother during her inpatient stay. My mother was an advanced stage pancreatic cancer patient, who was in the throes of hypotension and was bed bound for many days. One of my mother's final wishes was to attend the baptism of my nephew, which was to take place while she was in the hospital. Unfortunately, my mother's condition at the time limited her from participating. However, as was true to her nature, my mother insisted on completing the baptism favors, by hook or crook, in her hospital room. Anitra facilitated this by acquiring an extra table so that the task at hand could be completed in an assembly-line manner, as efficiently as Mom would have executed the job in her own home. Anitra's mantra, at the time was, "We can do this, this is Advocate!" Not only did she ensure the job was complete, she also assisted my mother in establishing a Skype connection so that Mom could watch the baptism remotely, which gave her much joy. We lost Mom a month later, Anitra's caring hands ensured that Mom's stubborn and defiant spirit in the face of such a devastating illness, carried forward contently with dignity and humility, just as Mom always practiced in life.
