Christine was assigned to a patient who passed away today. She provided excellent, compassionate care throughout the day despite having a language barrier with the family. She assisted the family in providing legacy work, and helped out when a photographer, arranged by social work, arrived and needed assistance. This family had many family members who arrived at various times throughout the day and Christine cared for them all.
We were able to arrange a prayer service and help the family make this day as meaningful as possible. I have to say that without Christine's help, I may not have been able to provide this service. Christine shared with me that while she has been a RN in our NICU for four years, this is the first death she has witnessed in her nursing career. This surprised me because the care and compassion she showed this family would appear that she has assisted with families in this type of situation many times. Christine provided the excellent nursing care which was needed this day.

Christine receives many written and verbal compliments from her peers as well as the parents and families of the patients she cares for. She is sensitive and compassionate in her approach to caring for some of the most fragile patients and has challenged herself to be a continuous learner to improve and expand her knowledge and skills to better care for all varieties of patients. She demonstrates high level professional behavior and is engaged in multiple department clinical initiatives. She is a preceptor, superuser and volunteers her time to help prepare our families for discharge as an instructor for the fast track to discharge class. Her initiative is not limited to the NICU; she recently volunteered to assist in supporting the staffing needs of another unit by volunteering to work several months with their team. Christine is truly an asset to the NICU team and the ACH Nursing staff and we are all blessed to have her.
