We recently had a patient that suffered from a traumatic brain injury. This patient was young, had a wife and two very young children. The medical intensive care unit nursing staff worked tirelessly on his behalf and a miracle happened. He got better and went home.
A short time later he came in for a routine procedure related to his traumatic brain injury and tragically, he did not make it. During both of this patient's hospital stays Angela went above and beyond to not only care for him but also his family. She would stay late after her shifts to make sure all the family needs were met.
On the patient's second hospital stay, Angela bought his wife dinner and stayed with her, long after her shift ended, to support her. The care didn't end there; after the patient passed away, Angela continued to give support to his family by attending the visitation, meeting with his wife outside of work as well as organizing a donation for the children.
And the care Angela gives wasn't just extra special for this family. She gives it to every family and patient. She works as a patient advocate and dedicates her whole self to the excellent care she gives each and every patient.
It is for these reasons and many more that Angela deserves the DAISY Award.
