When Loren started her shift, I was waiting for my medication because I was in a lot of pain. When I told her of my pain, she made sure to explain that there was no need to wait long for me to get my pain medication. Loren made sure I was comfortable. In fact, she checked on me even before her hourly rounding occurs. From that moment on, I felt secure that I was going to be taken care of. I was very thankful for having Loren as my nurse.

My mother is 80 years old and I am the only child. I am her primary care giver. For the first time in my life, I was hospitalized for the last 3 weeks. My mother is always by my side while I'm in the hospital. Loren made sure my mother is taken cared off as well. Loren would offer coffee or tea to my mother and would even bring blankets and pillows right away when we asked for them. Loren does not hesitate to meet our needs. Thank you very much for your compassion and everything that you do. God bless you!

After several years away, Loren recently returned to Oncology nursing and has found her niche. A passionate advocate for her oncology patients, she values inter-professional collaboration as she understands the value of whole person care. A typical day will see Loren speaking with physicians, social workers, case management, spiritual care, palliative care and dietary to address concerns and ensure that the needs of her patients are met whichever stage of their illness they are at. She understands that the plan of care is not just a documentation piece, it is uppermost in her mind in her bedside practice and in every interaction she has with the patient, their family and other caregivers. She tailors the plan of care for her patient depending on their abilities and goals—always offering encouragement to her patients to accomplish more than they thought they were capable of.
Loren has a big heart and a sense of humor that she shares with both her patients and her coworkers; she laughs with us and she cries with us because she cares.
Loren is truly deserving of the DAISY award as she embodies all that it represents every day.
