Mary Lou O'Connell not only is an excellent nurse but a wonderful person who encourages both staff and patients.
I am going back to school after being out for 30 years. I also am a full-time caregiver for my mother-in-law. When I was feeling very overwhelmed and sinking, I received in the mail the most encouraging card. It was from Mary Lou. It says "those who move mountains begin by carrying small stones. You can do this!" she added, "one paper, one class at a time. I believe in you!" Not only did she take the time to find this card, but mailed it to my house. Every day before I start my school work, I read her card and it motivates me.
After working a very long day at the wound conference on a Saturday, Mary Lou took the extra step and went to a patient's house to make sure he had the correct off-loading shoe so that his wound would have the best chance of healing. He had left his appointment without the shoe and she didn't want him to wait for another week to receive it. When she arrived at his home, the shoe didn't fit because he had given her the incorrect shoe size. She didn't stop there. She went back to the clinic to pick up the correct size, went back to his house and fitted it for him. She went so above and beyond to make sure that he had what he needed to get his wound better.
Mary Lou is a wonderful person who supports others, always is positive and wants the best for everyone.
